GENERAL QUESTIONS ON NIVEA SKiN GUiDE

What is NIVEA SKiN GUiDE?

NIVEA SKiN GUiDE is a web-based app that helps you find your optimal skincare routine. Using a selfie, NIVEA SKiN GUiDE runs an individual facial analysis and determines your optical skin age and the evenness and firmness of your skin. With 135 years of experience, NIVEA has been sharing our expertise in skincare for generations. NIVEA SKiN GUiDE is our way of taking our knowledge one decisive step further. Thanks to digital technology, we can share our extensive skin expertise with you directly. With just a scan of your skin, you can find out what it really needs. For a long-lasting effect, you can scan your skin once daily and track the scores in your personalised skin dairy. We’ll make you an expert on your own skin.

Who and what is behind NIVEA SKiN GUiDE?

A team of scientists, skincare experts, developers and NIVEA fans work behind the scenes on NIVEA SKiN GUiDE. This includes more than 10,000 women worldwide, who analysed their skin daily over several months. Our work is based on more than 20 million images, which were analysed using artificial intelligence. This is how we tailor to each and every skin type and its individual needs. You can now benefit from this research and do something good for your skin. It just takes a selfie to analyse your optical skin age, firmness and evenness using artificial intelligence. As an active user, you’ll also contribute to making the technology even better as it learns from your images.

What does NIVEA SKiN GUiDE analyse?

  1. The web app determines your optical skin age using a selfie to tell you if your skin appears younger or older than your actual age.
  2. Your skin’s firmness will also be analysed. This means elasticity and wrinkle formation. The higher the score, the firmer your skin.
  3. We also run an analysis on the evenness of your skin. NIVEA SKiN GUiDE assesses how firm and smooth it is.

Which parameters does NIVEA SKiN GUiDE analyse?

  1. To determine your optical skin age, the forehead, eye, cheek and mouth areas are analysed.
  2. The firmness of your skin is determined by checking the wrinkles around your forehead, eyes, nose and mouth.
  3. Impurities, spots and redness are scanned to assess the evenness.

What does skin age mean?

Using your selfie, the web app determines your optical skin age to tell you if your skin appears younger or older than your actual age. As you age, your skin goes through changes that are biological and completely natural. NIVEA SKiN GUiDE takes these into consideration automatically. But your skin is also influenced by other factors. These include e.g. nutrition, stress, environment and lifestyle.

What does firmness mean?

By firmness, we analyse how firm and elastic your skin is for your age. The higher the score, the better. In younger years, our skin is firm and elastic. As we age, the biological processes in our bodies change. Our skin changes, it loses firmness and wrinkles develop. When analysing your skin, we look closely at the wrinkles on the forehead and eye areas, as well as those around the nose and mouth.

What does evenness mean?

We assess the consistency and smoothness of your skin. The higher the score, the more even and smooth your skin is for your age. We look closely at your scan to see whether there are impurities, spots or redness on your face.

How does NIVEA SKiN GUiDE work?

The idea behind NIVEA SKiN GUiDE is to use a reliable facial analysis to find a suitable, individual skincare routine. It’s simple, comfortable and accessible anywhere. The goal is to run facial analyses with a smart phone. So we developed a method of taking a selfie quickly and reliably to determine optical skin age, firmness and evenness. More than 10,000 women worldwide analysed their skin every day for several months. This resulted in more than 12 million images, which were analysed using artificial intelligence. This research is now available for the benefit of your skin. After every scan, we show you your skin scores. We explain what the scores mean. You can start a digital skin diary to get regular analyses and to follow your progress. We recommend skincare products that suit the needs of your skin. You’ll also get personalised tips and tricks. You can take specific action to do something good for your skin.

USE

HOW DO I USE NIVEA SKiN GUiDE?

What do I do once I have my first recommendation?

Great, you’ve already taken the first step towards better skin! Keep up the good work looking after your skin. Start your digital skin diary. All your future analysis results will be saved there. After you’ve completed 6 scans within 28 days, you’ll see a skincare routine recommendation that suits your skin’s needs. You’ll also get valuable, personalised tips and tricks.

How do I take the perfect selfie?

The selfie we use for facial analysis is a little different from the typical holiday selfie on the beach. We don’t need you to strike a pose. We just need a simple look at your face. This means no make-up, hair off your face, no glasses, eyes open - and no laughing for once, as laughing could skew the results. It’s a bit like your biometric passport photo. Not exactly for sharing around, but perfect for a facial analysis.

How do I avoid errors in the scores?

NIVEA SKiN GUiDE works very precisely. This means, however, that even the small things your camera picks up will be captured and analysed. To avoid errors in the scores, try to run the facial analysis under the same conditions every time. This means at around the same time of day. Your face should be clean and dry. You should also scan your skin at least every second day. That way, you’ll balance out any slight fluctuations.

At which time of day should I scan my skin?

The short answer is: whenever you want! The long answer: whether you prefer to do it in the mornings or in the evenings, you can run an analysis whenever it suits your daily routine. However, you should stick to the same time of day. Do you prefer to scan your skin after showering in the mornings? Great, keep that up every day. Or would it suit you better to do it in the evenings after you take off your make-up? Stick with that instead.

Why 6 analyses within 28 days?

Our skin renews itself on average within 28 days. To evaluate the actual condition of your skin reliably, the analyses should take place within this time period. Because a scan is just one moment in time, we need at least 6 of these.

How often does my skin change?

Our skin renews itself around every 28 days. This is influenced by a range of factors, including health, nutrition, weather and lifestyle. Our skin appearance can even change on different days, in different places or seasons or in different phases of life. This is why you should scan your skin regularly so that you always have an overview of its development.

How often should I scan my skin?

The following generally applies: the more often you run a facial analysis, the more precise your recommendations will be. To get the best results, you should run a facial analysis at least every second day. If you want even more precise results, run a daily analysis.

How do I prepare for the facial analysis?

Your skin doesn’t need much preparation before scanning. Clean, dry, done! It’s best to run the analysis before you start your skincare routine. A good time to do it is in the morning after you get up. Or in the evening after you’ve taken off your make-up and before you begin your nightly skincare routine.

How often can I or should I scan my face?

To keep your skin in check and improve your scores, we recommend that you run a facial analysis regularly, up to once per day, and to keep your skin diary up to date. After 6 analyses within 28 days, you’ll receive personalised recommendations for your skincare routine. These products form a great basis for your skincare routine. If you stick with it, you’ll get two further recommendations to complete your personalised skincare routine. Your skin and these internal and external factors change regularly, which is why you should repeat the analysis series regularly too. Your skin needs suitable skincare products on different days and in different places, seasons and phases of life.

Can I also scan other parts of my body?

NIVEA SKiN GUiDE is only designed for facial scans at this point. But our research team is working on expanding NIVEA SKiN GUiDE to include other parts of the body. Once we’re ready, we will let you know.

What do I do if my selfie is blurry?

You’ll find specific instructions on how to take the perfect selfie for your facial analysis in the web app and on our website. If you don’t like the selfie you took, you can retake it as often as you like.

Is a selfie sufficient for facial analysis?

Yes. We’ve put a whole lot of work into NIVEA SKiN GUiDE so that you can run a facial analysis using a selfie. More than 10,000 women worldwide analysed their skin every day over several months. Our work is based on more than 12 million images, which were analysed using artificial intelligence. This is how we tailor to each and every skin type and its individual needs. It just takes a selfie to analyse your optical skin age, firmness and evenness using artificial intelligence. As an active user, you’ll also contribute to making the technology even better as it learns from your images. You could call it a technical feat for the benefit of your skin.

RECOMMENDATIONS

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT PRODUCT RECOMMENDATIONS

How many different product recommendations are there?

NIVEA SKiN GUiDE can recommend more than 700,000 product combinations. This gives you an idea of how individual and personalised our recommendations for you will be. As your skin changes constantly, we recommend that you run a facial analysis regularly. This way, you’ll always get suitable skincare recommendations.

How precisely will my skincare routine be put together?

Using your selfie, your skin scores will be analysed with artificial intelligence. These scores tell you how much care your skin needs. With this information, we search for suitable products for you. And since your skin is constantly changing, you should run a facial analysis regularly. We’ll adjust your recommendations accordingly.

Does NIVEA SKiN GUiDE only recommend NIVEA products?

We only recommend NIVEA products, and for good reason. Firstly, we can offer you an enormous variety of high-quality skincare products. Secondly, we know our own products extremely well. We know what’s inside NIVEA products and we have researched exactly how they work. And thirdly, we develop our products so that they complement each other perfectly. This makes NIVEA products ideal for combining with each other. New NIVEA products will automatically be added to NIVEA SKiN GUiDE database and considered when we send you your recommendations. However, we won’t rule out including skincare products from other brands in the future.

How quickly do the recommended products work?

Every skin is different, so we can’t give any guarantees. Run your facial analyses regularly to receive suitable product recommendations. Please keep in mind, though, that your skin is influenced by a range of factors.

My skin can’t tolerate the product. What should I do?

Try the product on just one small part of your face to be sure that it’s really the product causing the problem. A product intolerance is very rare. If it does occur, discontinue product use and call 040 / 4909 7575 (landline tariff) or use our contact form.

INFORMATION ON THE RESULTS OF YOUR FACIAL ANALYSIS

What do the scores on firmness and evenness mean?

NIVEA SKiN GUiDE works with a scale from 0 to 100 for firmness and evenness. 100 is the highest possible score in your age group. That means, for example, that with a firmness score of 100, you have incredibly firm skin for your age. Our goal is to work with you to get your score as high as possible. This is why we send you individual product recommendations and tips that suit your scores.

How do I read the graph?

If you’ve run several facial analyses, you’ll see your scores for firmness and evenness on a line graph in your daily skin diary. If your scores improve, the line will move upwards. You can add or hide the average scores for your age group on the graph as a tool for orientation.

How can I compare my results to average scores for my age group?

Under the curve graph featuring your scores, you’ll see two buttons, “Firmness” and “Evenness”. You can add the average scores for your age group directly to the graph using these buttons.

For how long a time period can I track my skin scores?

We want you to get to know your skin really well. So you can follow your skin scores for up to 12 months and compare them with your age group. You’ll be able to see trends and progress. You can select a time period for the curve graph.

How often should I repeat my 18 analyses?

To keep your skin scores current, you can run a facial analysis every day. You should run the complete set of analyses at least every three to six months. You’ll be able to notice and react quickly to changes in your skin that way.

Why do my analysis scores fluctuate so much from day to day?

Our skin is a dynamic organ that changes constantly. It’s influenced by an extremely wide range of factors. You might have spent too long in the sun, changed your nutrition or experienced too much stress. Some other possible influences include new skincare products or running facial analyses at different times of day. What’s important is that you can recognise a trend over a long period of time. Make sure that you run the scan at the same time and under the same conditions each day if possible.
