#Fact

Plastic has had a negative reputation for some time now. Despite all the good reasons to use it, as it is very lightweight, durable and nicely squeezable, we share people’s concerns about the plastic mountains in oceans and on landfills and the overuse of finite, fossil resources.

#REACT

BY 2025, WE WANT TO REDUCE THE FOSSIL-BASED VIRGIN PLASTIC WE USE IN OUR PACKAGING BY 50%

(BASE YEAR 2019).

NEW BODY CARE BOTTLE WITH 50% LESS PLASTIC

We use 50% less plastic compared to a standard NIVEA body lotion bottle – a major achievement that not only makes the packaging more sustainable but also allows you to squeeze and roll up the bottle, so you can use every last drop of body lotion. And once the bottle is completely empty, it is 100% recyclable.

reducing CO2 Emissions

Of course, the best thing for our planet would be no packaging at all – but that's probably not the best option for protecting our skincare products all the way from our production sites to your home. All of our plastic packaging improvements not only contribute to preventing pollution, they also lead to reduced CO2 emissions and therefore contribute to the fight against climate change. Our mantra on plastic: reduce where possible, replace when it makes sense, use recycled plastic wherever we can.

Recycled plastic in our product packaging

Using plastic packaging with a longer lifecycle reduces the necessity for virgin materials and fossil resources.

By 2025, we will ensure that 100% of our plastic packaging can be recycled once it’s empty.

Transparency about recycled materials

For full transparency, you will find the percentage of recycled plastic printed on all our new products from now on. And we are only talking about post-consumer recycled content, meaning packaging which becomes packaging again. Unless specified, industrial waste is not included in the percentage.

We are in the process of switching every single shower bottle to include the maximum amount of recycled content possible. By early 2021, it will be hard to find a NIVEA shower bottle without recycled content.
