Chamomile

Calming Softness For Your Skin

What are the benefits of using Chamomile?

When we are stressed, tired and worn out, it shows first in our skin. When our stress hormones go into overdrive they cause our skin, among other organs, to react. For some people, stress results in dry and sensitive skin. For others, stress can trigger oily skin.

Chamomile is an aromatic European plant of the daisy family which has gentle healing powers. It comes in many different forms, all of which offer natural health, beauty and skincare benefits. Its flowers contain essential oils and flavonoids, which act as anti-oxidants to help protect against the free radicals that can damage the body.

As an ingredient, chamomile is antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and antiseptic. It also has the ability to neutralise skin irritants. Due to its gentle but effective healing properties; chamomile is especially suited for use and treatment of overly dry, tender and sensitive skin. It’s soothing, refreshing and purifying effects help to heal and cleanse sensitive skin without irritating any existing conditions.

In addition to its many skincare benefits, chamomile has been shown to help with digestion, relieve nausea and heartburn, and aid relaxation. Just the scent of chamomile is thought to relieve depression and to encourage relaxation.

What else is Chamomile good for?

Here are some simple, effective ways to use chamomile for improved wellbeing, beauty and skin care:

As a relaxing herbal tea

A cup of chamomile tea can help you get a better night’s sleep and healthier looking skin. Add a generous teaspoon of dried chamomile blossoms to just-boiled water, with a dash of honey or lemon to taste, and drink before you go to bed.

As a tired, puffy eye remedy

To relieve tired, puffy eyes, brew two chamomile tea bags in just-boiled water for about two minutes. Remove your tea bags from the water and allow them to cool. Once cool, lie down and place one tea bag on each of your closed eyelids. Leave to soak for about 15 minutes.

As a facial steam

When immersed in hot water, dried chamomile tea leaves have a calming, apple-scented fragrance. Sprinkle some chamomile tea leaves into a bowl with hot water, hover your face over the top and cover your head with a towel. Slowly breathe in the steam to give your skin a relaxing, anti-inflammatory boost.
