How to Get Rid of Eye Bags and Puffy Eyes

Peering out from eye bags and puffy eyes after a long night partying or hours in front of a computer screen doesn’t feel great. The good news is puffy eyes and eye bags are usually harmless and with a few tricks your eyes can feel fresh in no time.

WHY DO EYES BECOME PUFFY?

The eye lids are made of very thin skin, and the tissue beneath is loose and soft. It does not contain much oil but has many blood vessels and lymph vessels. A lot of liquid moves around here in a very small space. After a wild party, the body not only suffers from a lack of sleep but also a lack of liquid, oxygen and minerals. As a result, lymphatic fluids collect in the tissue and can cause puffy eyes. In addition, a lack of permeability in the vessel walls, genetic predisposition and ageing skin are reasons for regularly developing puffy eyes, and also for tear sacs.

5 TIPS TO GET RID OF EYE BAGS AND PUFFY EYES

1. Keep hydrated

Hydration is key when it comes to fighting puffiness and bags. Keep your body well hydrated by:

  • Drinking plenty of water leading up to a party
  • Making sure to drink at least one glass of water with every cocktail or glass of wine
  • Drinking a big glass of water before you hop into bed and again the morning after

2. Stay cool

Pamper and moisturise your eyes with a cool gel or cucumber mask to reduce puffiness. If you’re in a rush, place cool (or even refrigerated) metal dessert spoons on your eyes for a few minutes.

3. Give yourself a gentle massage

A little massage works wonders. Massage the eye area gently with NIVEA Q10 plus ANTI-WRINKLE Cream. Apply it with circling movements from the outside in and pat it in lightly, if necessary. It not only cools and freshens the skin but also allows the lymphatic fluids to drain away slowly. Don't press too hard!

4. Get a good night’s sleep

A good dose of sleep helps in lots of situations in life because your body regenerates itself while it is resting. An ideal length of time is seven hours, so that puffy eyes have a chance to disappear. Ensuring the room is at the right temperature and that your sleeping position is comfortable is also crucial. The temperature in your bedroom should not be higher than 18 degrees Celsius. Treat your eyes to little rests during the day, too. Spending a few minutes with your eyes closed is sufficient.

5. Remove your makeup

So after partying, you don’t feel like removing your make-up? We sympathise, but not removing your make-up before going to bed is the biggest beauty sin of all. Make-up clogs the pores and can cause pimples. With ready-to-use make-up removal products such as make-up removal wipes, removing eye make-up is quick and easy. NIVEA Sensitive Cleansing Wipes have a fragrance-free formula to cleanse sensitive skin particularly gently and thoroughly. They not only remove make-up but also waterproof mascara.
