HOW TO CARE FOR VERY DRY SKIN

WHAT CAUSES VERY DRY SKIN

While some people have naturally very dry skin, others only suffer from redness and itchy areas of skin during the winter months. In either situation this can then develop into rough and chapped areas and give skin an uncomfortable tight feeling. Below are some of the most common cause of very dry skin.

COMMON CAUSES OF VERY DRY SKIN

Here are some of the most common causes of very dry skin:

Internal Factors: If there are only a few sebaceous glands, or if they aren't working properly, the skin will dry out quickly.

It's for this reason that very dry skin often occurs in areas with not many sebaceous glands and not much subcutaneous tissue such as the elbows, knees or shins. Whilst the sebaceous glands produce plenty of sebum during puberty, sebum production decreases as you get older leading to skin drying out.

The skin then needs increased, richer care. Using a nourishing moisturiser for very dry skin, like the NIVEA Rich Nourishing Body Lotion, can help.

External Factors:

External factors can also cause very dry skin developing. This includes cold, heat, sunlight, excessive contact with water, a poor diet or a lack of moisture.

Many people suffer from very dry skin especially during the winter months, as the cold deprives the skin of moisture. On top of that, the sebaceous glands produce less sebum in winter. This drying out is then worsened by dry air from heating systems inside.

Make sure to give your skin plenty of attention during the winter months and pamper dry and very dry skin with a moisturising care cream.
