INTRODUCING THE NEW NIVEA BIODEGRADABLE FACIAL CLEANSING WIPES

Whether it’s to take off make up or conveniently cleanse and refresh the skin, facial wipes are an essential beauty buy for many Australian women. Making our favourite multi-purpose facial cleansing wipes even better, NIVEA has launched the all-new Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes that are both gentle on the skin and the environment.

Featuring two natural powerhouse moisturising ingredients, each wipe is enriched with Organic Argan Oil that moisturises and leaves the skin feeling soft, whilst Organic Aloe Vera refreshes and balances the skin, for a radiant look.

The NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes are dermatologically approved, making them suitable for all skin types – even sensitive. They are also ophthalmologically approved, meaning they will not irritate the delicate eye area.

NIVEA Skincare Expert, Robyn Hutch, said “NIVEA is committed to providing high-quality, effective face care products that fit into your daily routine. Our Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes have been designed to effectively clean and care for the skin daily whilst being made from natural, renewable plant fibres that are environmentally friendly”.

NIVEA BIODEGRADABLE FACIAL CLEANSING WIPES QUESTIONS

What material are the new NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes made out of?
The NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes are made out of biodegradable natural fibres called viscose, which is a renewable material sourced from wood.

Are the new NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes biodegradable?
The NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes themselves are made of natural fibres, which are readily biodegradable. However, in order to ensure that wipes are kept moist and bacteria free, the packaging of the product is not biodegradable at this stage.

What does ‘biodegradable’ mean?
NIVEA follows the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) definition of biodegradability, which uses the OECD 301B –CO2 Evolution Test. This is a stringent screening test, conducted under aerobic conditions where biodegradation of the final formula is measured by CO2 production. A pass level of biodegradation of at least 60% within 28 days is required, and this pass level has to be reached in a 10-day window within the 28-day period of the test.

The NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes have passed this test, with more than 80% biodegrading within just 28 days.

Are the NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes flushable?
Although the wipes are made of natural origin fibres, NIVEA advises that cosmetic cleansing wipes should only be disposed of via standard domestic waste, and not via the toilet. To do so, the packaging of all NIVEA Facial Cleansing Wipes clearly advises users ‘Do not flush’ and we’ve placed the internationally recognised symbol for the bin disposal on the packaging. To dispose of the wipes, simply place them in the regular bin for personal care items.

Have NIVEA Biodegradable Facial Cleansing Wipes been dermatologically tested?
The wipes have been dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested and approved and are safe for all skin types.

Will NIVEA release other biodegradable products in future?
While we cannot comment on our future plans at this stage, at NIVEA, we are committed to providing high-quality, trustworthy products and to continuously reducing our environmental impact. We are striving to use renewable resources as much as possible, and as soon as possible, for future product development.

WHY WE LOVE ALOE VERA

Aloe vera is a member of the succulent plant species. The moisture content of the aloe vera leaf averages at 95%, which is locked in by a waxy outer coat. Studies have proven that the gel of the aloe vera plant provides the skin with moisture and protects it from drying out at the same time. Aloe vera leaves secrete a clear gel. When you break off a leaf from the rest of the plant you can apply the gel inside to dry, sunburned or wounded skin. When used as an ingredient in skin care products, aloe vera works to support the skin's natural moisture balance.
