Stretch marks form in the middle layer of your skin and are often misunderstood.
Contrary to popular belief, stretch marks don’t actually have much to do with the skin being stretched. Stretch marks are primarily caused by a disruption to your skin’s cortisone or collagen levels.
One good thing to know about stretch marks is that they won’t negatively affect your health in any way.
Stretch marks can be recognised by the following features:
- Having a streaky or striped and indented appearance
- Having red, pink, purple and sometimes grey colour
- Appearing around your hips, legs, arms, breasts, lower back or torso
