The Bathroom
A very special room – my private spa
What does the bathroom mean to you, fun time in the tub or spa? What does the bathroom of your dreams look like? For a room that we spend so much time in – repeatedly – and which is about, more than any other room, body care and inner well-being, our bathrooms often carve out a comfortless existence as a tiled standard. Without much effort, you can easily and quickly create a very personal wellness and beauty atmosphere. Here are a few tips for a better bathroom.
I like being here
Order should be the top priority in the bathroom. Looking at a set of overflowing shelves makes it hard to achieve inner calm and a sense of beauty. Hair clips, jars, razor blades and brushes should be put in wicker baskets or colourful plastic bins. The baskets not only look nice, but also ensure that your bathroom utensils can be found easily and are not in the way. Colour-coordinated textiles such as bathrobes and hand towels lend your bathroom a comforting warmth. And a stack of bath towels looks much more decorative if you roll up the folded towels and arrange the rolls with the round end to the outside.
Place a small wooden bench in your bathroom. It looks good, makes your bathroom look warm and ensures a relaxed feeling when you’re, for example, moisturising your skin. In general, natural materials such as stone, wood or even porcelain used sparingly stimulate the senses. Bathmats made of bamboo or hardwood feel comfortable on the feet and even massage them. Rounded rocks from a stream or a deep-black slate that sparkles when wet revive an otherwise unpretentious bath.
The sun rises
The right lighting for the bathroom is a question of mood and how you want to use it. That is why it is particularly beneficial to have several dimmable light sources in the bathroom. Mornings and evenings, your eyes will appreciate low lighting from dimmable lights. For flawless hygiene and make-up application, bright, indirect lighting is ideal. The light source should be near the mirror and, if possible, it should be able to be rotated. When taking a bath in the evening, you can simultaneously save on electricity and use romantic candlelight to recharge your own batteries.
Blossoms in the bath
Green plants in the bathroom mean wellness for the eyes. The cosy warmth and high humidity in the bath are particularly pleasing to tropical plants. Bamboo and Cyprus grass with their straight growths or lush ferns will transform your bathroom into an aesthetic spa temple. With a small herb garden on the window ledge, you can further improve your natural bath experience. Add a few twigs of thyme along with aromatic oils to hot bathwater to further reinforce the effect of a bath when fighting an oncoming cold. A pair of mint leaves in warm water for gargling will give you pleasantly fresh breath.
