Skin care for travel

Are you going on a holiday?
Time to finally get away from daily routines and head off on holiday! Going on holiday means not only change and relaxation for the mind, but also an adjustment for the body. A change in the day’s flow, a different diet, more sleep, a change in weather. It doesn’t matter is you’re off on a beach holiday or off to the snow, chances are you’ll be exposed to a lot of sun, exercise and perspiration. Fortunately a holiday is also the perfect time to address your skin care and beauty needs. Your body will thank you for it by giving you a truly radiant and relaxed look.

Check list
Sunscreen, lip care and after sun care are among the basic things you need to include in your toiletry bag. So you don’t forget anything, it’s a great idea to make a check list to help you pack. That way you won’t risk arriving at your holiday destination without your favourite products – and your skin won’t have to be subjected to unfamiliar ingredients and products (not to mention they usually cost twice the price in tourist spots!). When packing, make sure you check the date of expiry of your skin care products. Sunscreen from your last holiday with an expired shelf life can no longer protect you properly – so throw it away!

Swimming in the ocean ranks among the most pleasant of holiday activities, and your skin and hair benefit from it. Saltwater is good for both, but it can also be drying. It’s best to pamper your stressed skin and hair in the evening with a gentle shower gel, a nurturing shampoo and a moisturising rinse. A moisturising skin care creme and treatment pack as the evening’s final skin care step are the perfect preparation for the next day out in the sun. You can use the same routine after a day on the slopes, except you may want to swap the shower for a bath to soothe your exhausted muscles.

Packing correctly
When you pack, concentrate on the right clothing and save room for your cosmetics and personal hygiene products. You can purchase many products in handy travel sizes from 15 to 50 ml. To save room you can use a two-in-one shampoo that includes a moisturising conditioner. And remember, if you’re travelling by air then liquids of only up to 100 ml are allowed in your hand luggage. These include cremes, gels, sprays or toothpastes all of which you may only transport in a transparent, resealable plastic bag that holds a maximum of one litre. This has to be presented separately at the security gate. Your best bet is to pack the majority of your cosmetics in your check-in luggage (make sure you check the requirements for your airport as these can vary from place to place).

Tip: Place breakable bottles and cans in a plastic bag and wrap it up in a hand towel.

Happy holidays!
